대학교 졸업 전시에 출품한 작품이다. 배운 것들의 결정체로 어떠한 그림을 그릴지에 고민하던 중, 나에게 그림을 그리는 행위가 무엇인지를 표현해야겠다고 마음을 먹었다. 나의 모든 작품들에는 강한 염원이 담겨 있다. 때로는 과거의 사랑을 극복하기를 바라기도 또 때로는 어린 시절의 순수함을 간직하기를 바라기도 한다. 나는 이러한 행위를 종교에서 신자들이 간절히 기도하는 행위와 크게 다르지 않다고 생각한다. 비록 세상이 아무리 험하고 불확실할지라도 우리는 그 안에서 각자만의 기도 방식을 통해 삶을 계속해서 살아갈 수 있는 힘을 얻길 바라고 또 염원한다. 나에게 그림을 그리는 행위란 비오는 날일지라도 무릎을 꿇고 간절히 비는 것과 같다.
This work was for my BFA show. As the final work as a student, I wanted to arrange every moments in one piece and I decided to explain why I paint. In every artworks I make, there is the strong wish. Sometimes I wish to get better from past loves or wish to maintain innocence of childhood. I believe this act is not much different from praying in religion. Even though the world is full of uncertainty and agony we all find different ways to pray in order to get courage to live along. For myself, the act of painting is praying on my knees in a rainy day.
